Marble was the absolute protagonist at the Salone del Mobile held last April. In fact, numerous brands chose to exploit the elegance and natural charm of marble and other natural stones, materials that continue to offer new ideas to designers and planners around the world.

Let’s have a look together at some of the trends that caught our attention.

Focus on sustainability: marble climbs the rankings of sustainable materials.

Among the main trends, the choice of materials with a low environmental impact has certainly attracted a great deal of attention. This is because they are natural, harmonious and, at the same time, eco-friendly.

An example of this is the PURO coffee tables by Armani Casa. They are made entirely of wood and stone salvaged from previous productions and embellished with the beautiful and lustrous Emerald Quartzite. Purity is expressed both in shapes and choice of materials.

A return to naturalness: the comeback of natural materials.

At the Salone it became clear that there is an increasing return to naturalness at the expense of anything artificial. It is a trend we discussed in a previous article (See: “Which marble to choose to decorate your home in the “Himalayan” style?“), with natural materials playing the leading role. Synthetic fibers are replaced by wool and cotton. Ceramics and quartz agglomerates give way to natural stones.

The MILLENNIUM table, designed by Gino Carollo for Arketipo, represents the perfect synthesis of this concept. A work that celebrates minimalism, a design ideology that celebrates, rather than diminishes, simplicity.

Millenium features a marble top combined with wood. Even the legs combine marble and metal in an attractive design characterized by a solid and elegant finish.

Passion for color: a new form of expression that also applies to natural stone.

If the scene at the Salone has traditionally been dominated by the more classic Calacatta, Nero Marquina and Emperador Dark, materials in the predominant shades of white, grey, black or brown, this year color has taken the spotlight and imposed itself as a central element to bring to life more playful and striking, yet elegant, furnishing accessories.

The KAREN coffee tables in Pink Crystal Quartzite, designed by Giuseppe Iasparra for Longhi, deserve special mention in this trend.

A timeless classic: a great success for the Travertine.

The return to naturalness has brought with it a rediscovered passion for Travertine, a natural stone that is classic and yet timeless in its appearance and in its shades that are close to the earth. Traditionally used as an indoor and outdoor building material, Travertine stood out at the Salone for its versatility, particularly as a decorative element for outdoor furniture. The Eternal Collection by Dolcefarniente DFN is a good example of this.
