Salone del Mobile 2024, between art and design: here are the Marmo Elite’s favorites

Salone del Mobile 2024

Marble played a leading role at the last edition of the Milan Salone del Mobile, thanks to technological and innovative solutions that make it a versatile and contemporary element. Let’s take a look together at the art installations and the design objects that have impressed us the most.

Marble is art

The first art installation that caught our attention was the “Testa Dei Marmi” series of sculptures presented by Berenice Curt Architecture as part of the attractions offered during the Milan Design Week in conjunction with the Salone del Mobile. 001tdm’s works embody the sculptural heritage of natural resources; made from pieces of marble – each one chosen for its unique veining and color from among thirteen types of marble collected over the past three years from various Italian building sites and quarries – the Teste Dei Marmi are inspired by the Teste Di Moro that have adorned Sicilian balconies for centuries.

Also worth mentioning is the installation “The Clearing” presented at Fuorisalone 2024. Designed by Hannes Peer Architecture for Van Den Weghe, the installation unfolds along a path of deconstruction and metamorphosis that transcends traditional creative boundaries.
Inspired by Heidegger’s philosophical concepts, The Clearing presents a series of totemic sculptures made of travertine. These sculptures serve as symbols of being and non-being, materiality and the ethereal.
The sculptures reveal a high level of technical expertise and profound craftsmanship, demonstrating the flexibility of travertine and marble through state-of-the-art finishes. The pretext is to initiate a dialogue on architectural complexity and the interaction between interior design and architecture.

Marble is design

Visionnaire, a meta-luxury brand that is a reference in the field of Italian-made interiors, proposed a bold use of marble with its NOMAD collection presented at the Salone del Mobile. The result is an organic and enveloping architecture where the geometry of the edges gives way to soft volumes, where corners become curves that welcome and soften everyday life, where the colors are soft and the light is rarefied, as in a desert landscape.

Among the most inspiring spaces, “Duncan” caught our full attention: a room with a table and kitchen in Ocean Storm, a marble whose hues vary from light blue to deep blue, with background structures in shades of ivory and white.

Elegant and contemporary, Travertine once again took center stage at Salone del Mobile. Bamax followed this trend perfectly, presenting a majestic wooden kitchen with an island and travertine inserts.

At the Salone del Mobile, not only traditional materials were on display, but also new and exotic materials that we at Marmo Elite love to explore. These include onyx and precious marbles such as Verde Antigua. A perfect exponent of this trend was Annibale Colombo, a historic Brianza company specializing in handcrafted luxury Italian furniture.

Finally, in the field of home decoration, the project that stands out for its elegance and originality is POR | TAN | TE by FiammettaV in collaboration with SuonareStella. It’s a collection of marble vases, a sculptural column that can be disassembled into three independent objects: a pocket emptier, a high vase for flowers and a low vase for compositions.
